Its for emissions, because a cold engine makes more pollution than a fully warmed up engine. Sure, logically an engine not warming up fast enough could be a thermostat. TIPMstands for Totally Integrated Power Module. Think of it like the motherboard that houses all of the important fuses and power relays on your Grand Cherokee. Started having stall issues with my 5.7 Hemi Jeep Grand Cherokee with 34,700 miles. Stalled on my wife three times with no check engine light. Dealership had it for a week and said it had a P0884 code. They could not duplicate the problem and re-programed the OKMZ.
